One of Gazel's guests is murdered, and so he must fight to fix the wrongs according to his ancestor's ways. His journey takes him from the middle of the Sahara Desert to a wasteland from which no one returns to a foreign city beside the sea. In this story, tradition clashes with the modern life as good intentions clash with corruption. Upholding either law only seems to add to the chaos of Gazel's solitary war.Gazel is a hero with a flaw, which of course makes this story a tragedy. He has a lotI think, overall, this book deserves a five. Though the ending is controversial, I think, and I personally resent it, the Tuareg warrior, Gacel, is so masterly defined, its skills and adaptation to the harsh land he lives in so compellingly described, that through him mostly the author built a book that stuck with me through decades. It's one of those books I never forgot. As for the ending, without spoiling it none, I can say that some will find it amazing, a twist of a master, and others will

It was a really enjoyable reading. I learned many interesting things about Tuareg and related cultures. The character and plot development were very professional. I never felt any boredom. However, I give 4 stars not 5, just because from the very beginning I had more expectations. One more thing: if you have your piece from romanticism regarded fiction reading, this book will be really engaging and emotional, if you don't, then it is just narration or plot. If you decide to read this book, bear
Definitely it's a recommendable book, it lets you know and understand other culture that (maybe as happened to me) we do not even know exist, it describes perfectly their live, customs; and with that transmitted a point to reflexion about values and honor that nowadays we are missing in our lives. Obviously the narration of injustice events can disappoint you, but that also helps you to evaluate which is more important in live. Read it.
Really nice book full of descriptions that bring the desert closer to home. Makes you oscillate between really feeling for the Tuareg and Gacel and not understanding at all. Brilliantly done. Also the confrontation between modern world and eternal laws of the nomads was awesome.(view spoiler)[However, the ending was not only bitter but unnecessarily so. Could have been a semi-nice one (yes, I am a hopeless romantic...) - but this choice left me speechless with indignation and the need to shout
What a surprise! As I was studying spanish, I bought some top rated spanish written books. Touareg was one of them. I never heard about the book, or the author, but I was surprised...Good narrative, including an interesting overview of "saharian" culture.
