Article Out Of Books Vanishing Act (Jane Whitefield #1)

I've read and enjoyed so many of Thomas Perry's Jane Whitefield series, so I finally got my hands on this first book in the series. The book does contain a history of the character, a Native American Seneca - I was particularly interested in this because I have Seneca in my family tree. So I was very interested in the history aspect of the book, but some readers may not be as interested in this background information, which you can easily skip past, but I don't recommend that. It does help

5* Wow, what a trip. I came across this book because James Thane reviewed The Old Man by Thomas Perry and mentioned the Jane Whitefield series. I tried to borrow The Old Man from my library but it wasnt available, so I took two others that were. Perry is a new author to me and I dont know how I could be unaware of him. I love the character Jane Whitefield and the series of novels based on her character. In general, Perry is an excellent writer, and I just finished his stand alone novel, "The old man." But, the Jane Whitefield novels are my favorites as she is a strong, intelligent female protagonist who helps others in a way others couldn't. You get a glimpse of Native American rituals in the novels, and a more in depth look at how to start over with a new name, job, and geographical location as this is what

A friend recommended we try author Perry, so we glommed onto Vanishing Act, the first in his seven-book Jane Whitefield series. Whitefield is indeed an interesting leading lady of Seneca Indian heritage, she lives in the same western New York state area from which Perry hails. Her occupation is like a one-woman Witness Protection Program she helps people disappear through all manner of elaborate schemes and new identities.In the first half of the tale, John Felker arrives on her doorstep,

I actually enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. I was pretty bored with the first half, but the second half definitely made up for it. I still wouldnt count this as a true mystery novel, which was more of what I was looking for, but it was fast paced and engaging, especially towards the end. I might continue the series at some point, but only if I was looking for more suspense than mystery.

A little too "woo woo" for my taste but I'm willing to read book 2 in the series.
