Spectacular!

NOT a vacation book... Ups

Loved this book. I like the way the characters are evolving given their circumstances. The way George R.R. Martin writes from the point of view of the different characters keeps the book from becoming confusing given the many (too many in my opinion) characters. Nothing is black and white. Even the good characters do things where "the ends justify the means". My own little quibble is that too many of the likeable characters are killed off. I'm hoping in the next books my favorites stay alive

At the same time, tough I feel that if the plot was simpler it would lose what makes it a really amazing story. Anyway 4 stars for me!

LOVED IT!!! This part is definitely getting into the game of thrones and intrigues that were promised in the first 3 books. Can't wait to continue!

Reading Stannis(Davos) chapters was a pain in the ass. But the rest was amazing

I'm in complete awe of Martin's ability as a writer. He weaves a complex tale of multiple families, multiple kings, and multiple battles into a coherent, suspenseful narrative. With chapters written from the perspectives of major characters, I always found myself upset when one chapter ended because I knew that it would be many more chapters until I returned to that corner of the world.
